WHAT TO WEAR FOR A PLUS-SIZED BOUDOIR PHOTO SHOOT
Getting in front of a camera can be nerve-wracking for most of us, especially when it comes to a boudoir photoshoot. The thought of being photographed with very little clothing might stir up insecurities, doubts, and fears. Many of us don’t even like taking photos with our clothes on—so how can we expect to feel comfortable and love ourselves in images with only a few scraps of clothing?
Well, let me share something truly wonderful and empowering: it’s not about what you wear. It’s about capturing you—your personality, your smile, your laughter, and your essence. Boudoir photography, when done right, is about celebrating who you are in the most beautiful and authentic way possible. Your comfort and confidence take center stage, not the clothing you wear or the body shape you might be worried about.
It’s All About You
Unlike many boudoir photographers, my focus isn’t solely on creating sultry poses or dramatic lighting that highlight only certain aspects of your body. Instead, I aim to capture the essence of who you are. Whether you’re laughing, smiling, or radiating joy, those are the moments I want to preserve.
You may have noticed that a lot of my boudoir images feature women who are laughing, smiling, and just enjoying the experience. That’s because confidence and happiness are the true markers of beauty, and that’s what I focus on. Your face, your expressions, and your unique energy will be featured in 90% of the images I take. Yes, I love a good “fierce” pose as much as anyone, but I believe that showing your true self is what creates the most powerful and impactful images.
Facing Your Insecurities
I know it’s easy to feel insecure about your body—whether it’s your arms, tummy, or any other area you’re self-conscious about. Trust me, I hear this from so many of my clients, and I understand how these feelings can affect your confidence. However, the magic happens when you step in front of the camera and trust the process. With the right lighting, posing, and styling, your insecurities fade away, and you’re left with images that reveal your true beauty.
It might surprise you to hear that during the image reveal session, when we look through all of your photos together, the shots where you thought you were “hiding” behind clothing or strategically placed poses tend to be your least favorite. The ones where you allowed yourself to be free and embrace your body, your laughter, and your personality? Those are the images you’ll fall in love with.
Every Woman is Photogenic
One thing I want to stress is that every woman is beautiful. Size, shape, and age do not determine your beauty, and they certainly don’t affect how photogenic you are. I’ve worked with countless women who initially believed they weren’t “camera ready,” only to leave the session absolutely blown away by how stunning they look in their photos.
I’ve never met a woman who wasn’t beautiful or photogenic—it’s just that some haven’t had the right photographer to show them their true potential. If you’ve been hesitant to book a boudoir session because of these fears, let me tell you: you haven’t shot with me yet. I’m here to bring out the best in you, and together, we’ll create images that show you just how beautiful you truly are.
What to Wear for Your Boudoir Shoot
When it comes to boudoir outfits, the goal is to make you feel confident, comfortable, and empowered. Some of my favorite wardrobe options for boudoir shoots include:
Bodysuits: These are incredibly flattering for all body types, and they come in a variety of styles. Whether you’re looking for something with sleeves to cover your arms or a romper style to conceal your tummy, bodysuits are a fantastic choice that enhances your natural shape while offering support. My favorite outfits in my style closet are the long sleeve bodysuits!
High-Waisted Undies: If you want a little more coverage, high-waisted underwear paired with a matching bra is not only stylish but also helps create a flattering silhouette. High-waisted sets are fantastic for providing extra support where needed, and they can look incredibly chic.
Casual Looks: For those who prefer a more relaxed vibe, a cozy, oversized t-shirt, sweater or a cotton bra and panty set can be just as captivating. You could even try a lace dress or a semi-sheer beach cover-up for a dreamy, ethereal look. The key is choosing something that makes you feel good without hiding your natural beauty.
Birthday Suit: If you’re feeling adventurous, consider going completely au naturel. With or without a sheet, this look can be stunning, and the beauty of your body will truly shine through in the images.
Confidence Starts Here
When you’re ready to take the plunge and book your boudoir session, remember this: you don’t need to wait until you lose weight or feel like you’ve reached your “perfect” version of yourself. You are already perfect, and you deserve to see yourself as the beautiful, confident woman you are right now.
Boudoir photography is an empowering experience, and I want every woman to feel that rush of self-love and confidence. You deserve this moment—whether for yourself, to celebrate a milestone, or just because you want to feel amazing. When you’re ready, I’ll be here, ready to capture the real you.
