A Boudoir Photo Session on your Period – All You Need to Know
Imagine this: you washed your hair, waxed & got your nails done for your boudoir photoshoot. Then you wake up to a stomach full of cramps and a bad mood. You’re lucky if you can’t relate. So should everything be canceled?
Is a boudoir photo session on your period even possible?
The answer is yes! Of course, it’s possible. I’ll tell you exactly how to manage your boudoir session on your period.
My experience with boudoir photography
Yes, been there and done that. Can’t say it was the best though. I was on my period the first time I had a boudoir photography session. I did get some acne, but it was no big deal. I was fine with it.
The only problem was the photographer. Oh boy, did she make me feel bad! She didn’t even want me to wear her clothes! (Which I wouldn’t do to anyone.) All in all, it was a pretty bad first experience for me.
But that’s why I’m here, right? To make sure that someone else wouldn’t go through the same thing. Because I know what’s best for my clients, so let’s see what you should know when you are having a boudoir photo session on your period.
Be well prepared
If you want to, you can bring your own sanitary products. But just in case, I, too, have pads and tampons in my studio. And you’re all welcome to use them! There’s nothing to be worried about or embarrassed about having a period. It’s totally normal.
If you are feeling worried about other physical discomforts, bring what you need. Pop in some ibuprofen to your purse, or even chocolate! Have some warm beverages before coming. Just make sure that you’re feeling your best during the session.
If you need to take a break during the session or if you need to use the restroom more frequently, that’s completely okay. We can work around your needs and make sure that you feel comfortable and supported throughout the session.
Pads or tampons?
Since this is boudoir photography, you should be careful about what exactly you use because you would probably be dressed in clothes that are pretty revealing. So having to deal with uncomfortable pads is a big no-no with the outfits we are going to be shooting in. Tampons are one of the best ways to go and the string can be tucked up so its not visible. I also recommend trying out the menstrual disk.
This is a pretty amazing product. Once you wear one, you’re good for around 12 hours! It’s comfortable and, most importantly, has no leakage. My personal favorite is the hello disk. This gem comes with a finger loop which makes things so much easier. I’ve actually tried one without a finger loop before. Needless to say, it scared me for a good minute. But it’s up to you. Because I want to ensure you feel comfortable at the end of the day.
What about clothes?
Anything! There are no rules. Choose whatever outfit that makes you feel like a queen. You can wear sensual and seductive clothes that make you feel like the baddie you are. You can even accompany some props if you want.
But if you have a hard time finding proper clothes, you can count on me! Thanks to my previous experience, I now always make sure to have some clothes in my studio. You can choose what you like. And if you’re worried about possibly ‘ruining’ clothes, don’t be! Clothes can be washed, no big deal! It’s really not something you should be stressed about.
Acne and bloating
Ah! Acne and bloating. These are the two annoying things that make your period even worse. After all the self-care and beauty sleep, they’re here to ruin your photo session. Or are they? I know the simplest trick to get you through this.
Photoshop! Yes, the good old photoshop. I can erase or alter any unwanted portion in your photo using this. I’ll make sure that you look your best in your photos because nothing should stop you from having your boudoir photography session.
Final Words
So this is about it. This is a small attempt to ensure you won’t miss out on an amazing opportunity. Don’t skip a time dedicated to appreciating and loving yourself and your body. Definitely not because of cramps! Doing a boudoir photo session on your period is such a powerful move. Because even if it’s frustrating, it’s still a part of you, right? And if others can do something, we can definitely do it better while bleeding!
Remember that periods are a natural and normal part of life, and there is no need to feel embarrassed or ashamed. I’m here to help you embrace your body and feel confident and beautiful, regardless of what’s going on with your menstrual cycle.
Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns, and I’m looking forward to working with you to create some stunning boudoir photos!
